Former Governor Parris N. Glendening joins Scarlet Oak Strategies, the public affairs and policy consultancy founded by his son Raymond.

Scarlet Oak recently opened an office in Annapolis on State Circle and continues to have a location in downtown Washington, DC

The former governor will join the company in a senior advisory role.

Earlier this year, he announced that he would be leaving Smart Growth America after more than 20 years with the nonprofit that was founded to fight suburban sprawl.

A company announcement recognized Glendening’s many years of experience as an elected public official and environmentalist for smart growth, housing, clean energy, transport and combating climate change.

“I am honored and excited to join the Scarlet Oak Strategies team,” said Glendening, noting that he has worked with many of the company’s current clients over the years, including The Truth Initiative, Jacoby Development and the Edison Electric Institute .

“My goal is to help our customers to be successful and to do well while at the same time helping to make the world a little bit better for everyone,” he said in a written statement.

Glendening’s more than 30 years in the electoral office began as a city council member in Hyattsville and served two terms on Prince George’s County Council, three terms as district executive and two terms as governor.

Raymond Glendening said that while it is a personal honor to work with his father, it is even more humiliating to have someone with Governor Glendening’s vast experience and expertise in industries that we are so focused on [on] our team.”

In addition to his work at Scarlet Oak, Parris Glendening continues to teach at the Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins University.
